Beenie Man’s “Who Am I” reaches UK gold milestone

Beenie Man’s “Who Am I”, widely recognised by its “Sim Simma” refrain, has been certified gold in the United Kingdom. The Jamaica Observer reports that the British Phonographic Industry issued the certification on 23 October, recognising 400,000 equivalent units from sales and streaming. Released in 1997, the recording pairs Beenie Man’s delivery with Jeremy Harding’s Playground rhythm. Its new certification underlines the song’s lasting reach well beyond its original dancehall audience. The track also appears on The Many Moods of Moses. For fans revisiting the Jamaican artist’s catalogue, the milestone provides a timely reason to return to one of his most recognisable international recordings.
